

Hey everyone! Do you love running and playing sports? How about learning? When you want to do any of those things, your body needs energy! To fuel up your body, grains are the way to go! Breads and cereals are made from grains, and are full of car-bo-hy-drates, which give you’re body energy.
Fruits, like bananas, can can also give you energy to play all day!
Energy isn’t all you need though! If you want to grow up strong, you need to eat your protein. Protein helps build muscles after you play! Meat, like chicken, and even eggs are great sources of protein. Milk, cheese and yogurt can power you up too! They are full of protein, and even have more of those carbohydrates for energy! Beans, like black beans and soybeans are another great place to get protein.
So, your body is strong and full of energy, but even the strongest body can get sick! The best way to fight off illness is with fruits like blueberries and oranges! Just think of how many sweet and delicious fruits there are, and lot of them help keep you healthy!
Well, what about vegetables?! Everyone knows they’re supposed to eat their vegetables, but do you know why? Vegetables like broccoli and carrots are full of nutrients that help your body work. See how many different colored veggies you can think of! Each different colored vegetable gives your body something else it needs to be strong, healthy and happy!
Have you ever seen the Food Pyramid? It’s a fun, easy way to find out which of your favorite foods belong in each food group. It even helps tell you which foods you should eat more of. The bigger the space the food group takes up on the food pyramid, the more of that group you should eat! Take a look and you’ll see what I mean! It shows a big area for bread, cereal and other grain foods for energy for your busy days at school, home and while you’re playing. Can you find it on the food pyramid. It also shows the meat and proteins group we were talking about, the milk group, the vegetable group, and the fruit group! Everything we were just talking about! And there’s one more group. It’s a group of foods that provide fats and oils. You may have heard that fat is bad for you, and some kinds are. But, sometimes, eating a little bit of these foods is really good for you! Some fats are considered healthy! They’re full of something called “Omega-3s.” You can eat salmon or some nuts for healthy fats and Omega-3s.
